Syracuse University to hold 2nd forum on diversity, inclusion in mid-November

More than 100 students, faculty and staff will be meeting in workgroups over the next three weeks to discuss concerns raised during an Oct. 2 campus forum on diversity and inclusion.

In an email sent Friday morning to the Syracuse University community, Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina said the workgroups will meet throughout the next three weeks, and a second forum will be scheduled for mid-November.

Following the Express Yourself forum, which was held Oct. 2 in Hendricks Chapel, Spina and Dean of Student Affairs Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz invited the campus community to participate in five workgroups. More than 100 students, faculty and staff volunteered to participate in those groups, which were formed based on issues raised before and during the forum.

The five workgroups are:

  • Diversity and inclusion planning workgroup
  • Participatory educational experience
  • Recruitment, support, retention and success
  • Faculty ambassador program
  • Athletics-student engagement

The mid-November forum will serve as a way for the workgroups to provide updates, as well as continue dialogue, Spina said. Once an official date is confirmed for the forum, the university will notify the community.
