Syracuse football recruiting: Defensive end Jamal Holloway joins Class of 2016

Class of 2016 Camden (New Jersey) High School defensive end Jamal Holloway has verbally committed to Syracuse, he announced on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound pass-rushing specialist is the 14th member and first defensive end in SU’s 2016 class. He is ranked with three stars and as the 52nd weak-side defensive end in the class by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. Depending on the scheme, Holloway could also play outside linebacker.

“(Holloway’s) speed for his size is unbelievable and the way he rushes the passer, he’ll affect a lot of throws,” Camden head coach Dwayne Savage told The Daily Orange earlier this month. “He can really chase down the ball.”

Holloway joins outside linebacker Dymelle Parker as the second Camden player in the Orange’s Class of 2016. Those two and wide receiver Sadiq Palmer make up the trio of 2016 recruits from New Jersey.

The other finalists for Holloway were Pittsburgh, Old Dominion and Temple, according to nj.com. He also had offers from Michigan State, Rutgers and Virginia, among others.

Syracuse’s current roster has eight defensive ends, four of which are either juniors or seniors. The Orange had four defensive ends in its Class of 2015 including Kenny Carter, Qaadir Sheppard, Amir Ealey and Jake Pickard.
