Farmer still unbeaten as SU’s women’s soccer coach

Patrick Farmer is undefeated as head coach of the Syracuse women’s soccer team. The Orange improved to 2-0 in Sunday’s 1-0 double-overtime victory at RAC Field in Buffalo.

Junior midfielder Jenna Richter ended the scoreless tie, scoring from 10 yards out after a Buffalo defender headed a corner kick. She beat Buffalo goalkeeper Anna Lesa Calvert for her first career goal in the 109th minute.

SU senior Shannon Myers stopped five shots for her 12th career shutout. The Orange has now started its season 2-0 for the third time in four years.

UB lost for the first time in its home opener since 1993.

Field Hockey



Temple toppled Syracuse, 4-3, after a second-half scoring flurry Sunday at Geasey Field in Philadelphia.

After a scoreless first half, SU freshman Jessica Lerew scored to put the Orange (0-1) ahead with 3:10 remaining off a penalty-corner assist from senior Lindsay Peirson, who finished the day with a goal and two assists. She now has 17 career points.

The Owls tied it up less than two minutes later and then won it with 6:20 remaining in overtime.

Temple All-American goalkeeper Erin Conroy made 11 saves, while junior Jessica Dahle, a converted midfielder, recorded six saves for SU.
