No saves for Scheer in victory

Staff reports

Syracuse goalie Rich Scheer had the easiest shutout of his career – no shots on goal and no saves.

The Orange defeated Oneonta, 1-0, on Tuesday at Red Dragon Soccer Field. Freshman Brad Peetoom registered his first career goal in the third minute of the game to give the Orange a win.

It was SU’s first shutout of the season and Scheer’s first since the 2001 season. The Red Dragons had six shots in the second half but none registered as saves.

Peetoom’s goal was off a free kick just over the half line. The ball was knocked around several times until Oneonta goalie Tim Melia tipped it off the crossbar. Peetoom’s header made him the third freshman to score a goal this season. SU moved to 2-3 this season.
