Warrick named AP First Teamer

Syracuse senior forward Hakim Warrick was named to the Associated Press All-American first team Tuesday night.

Warrick is the first SU player since Billy Owens in 1991 – and fourth SU player ever – to earn the accolade. Sherman Douglas and Derrick Coleman are the other Syracuse players to receive the honor.

Joining Warrick on the team are Utah’s Andrew Bogut, Kansas’ Wayne Simien, Wake Forest’s Chris Paul and Duke’s J.J. Redick.

Bogut led the voting with 60 first-team votes and 330 points, 22 points ahead of Redick. Warrick was the final first-team honoree, finishing with 283 points. The same 72-member national media panel that votes in the AP Top 25 poll each week made the selections.

Warrick was a third-team AP All-American last season.

Warrick led Syracuse with 21.4 points and 8.6 rebounds this season. He was also named Big East Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Player of the Big East tournament. He finished his SU career fourth on the school’s scoring and rebounding lists with 2,073 points and 1,025 rebounds, respectively.

Syracuse ended its season Friday night with a 60-57 overtime loss to Vermont in the NCAA Tournament’s first round.
