Ferri, Jones, Reyes find NFL roster spots
Diamond Ferri was surprised and disappointed he wasn’t drafted on Saturday or Sunday, but he received consolation on Monday. Ferri signed as a free agent with the New York Giants.
A safety, Ferri was expected to be picked during the draft’s late rounds. He spent the weekend in New York and signed the contract on Monday. He led the Syracuse football team with four interceptions and was second with 99 tackles.
Wide receiver Jared Jones also landed a deal, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. He led the team this year with 43 catches for 621 yards.
Running back Walter Reyes signed with the Tennessee Titans yesterday, the Titans announced.
Ferri, Jones and Reyes will compete for an NFL roster spot, along with Adam Terry, who was drafted in the second round by the Baltimore Ravens, and Matt Tarullo, who signed a free-agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
Ferri joins former Syracuse players Will Allen and David Tyree on the Giants, while Jones will team with former Orange star Donovan McNabb in Philadelphia. Reyes joins former SU linebacker Keith Bullock on the Titans.
