Orange beats SHU, advances to play Eagles

Prior to the start of the Big East tournament, Syracuse tennis head coach Mac Gifford declared Boston College and Notre Dame as the two teams to beat.

After SU’s dominating 4-0 opening-round win over Seton Hall in Tampa, Fla., on Thursday, the Orange will get a rematch with the Eagles.

Syracuse won two of three doubles matches, and Victoria Vaynberg, Katie Bramante and Wei-Ming Leong won singles matches. Three other singles matches didn’t finish because SU had already clinched the match.

The Orange fell to BC, 6-1, last Saturday for its only Big East loss of the season. SU will try to avenge that loss today at noon. The winner plays the winner of Notre Dame-St. John’s on Saturday for the championship.
