The Academy Is… headlines tonight’s second fall concert in Syracuse University’s Bandersnatch Music Series.

The show, starting at 8 p.m. in the Schine Underground, provides a change for both students and the band.

‘It’s unique to take a band that usually plays larger venues and play an intimate, smaller show,’ said Andrew Beyda, co-president of Bandersnatch.

Bandersnatch, a division of University Union, tries to provide an opportunity for music genres other than those appearing at larger UU concerts to perform. Hip-hop act Mike Posner appeared as Bandersnatch’s first performance of the fall semester on Oct. 28.

Beyda said he has seen a lot of interest among students. Ticket sales have already been much higher than usual and as of 4 p.m. Monday, the box office sold 235 tickets and had 115 remaining, Beyda said. He said there are typically 150 left over the day before a show. Tickets will be sold until doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Lauren Wilson, a freshman architecture major, said she first planned on going when she heard many of her friends planned to attend as well. But Wilson said she’s also listened to the Chicago-based alternative band since its early days.

The group has released two other full-length albums, ‘Almost Here’ (2005) and ‘Santi’ (2007). The band’s most recent EP release, ‘Lost in Pacific Time: The AP/EP,’ includes five new songs, one featuring Andrew McMahon of Jack’s Mannequin.

The Academy Is… formed in 2003, and Rolling Stone magazine recently ranked the band’s most recent album, ‘Fast Times at Barrington High,’ as one of 2008’s Top 50 Albums.

Currently composed of William Beckett on lead vocals, Michael Carden and Michael Guy Chislett on guitar and Andrew Mrotek on drums, the band is signed with Atlantic Records and has toured with Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy and Paramore.

Tonight’s performance also features Hot Chelle Rae and special guest Fazeshift.

Local rock/pop group Fazeshift started in 2005. The band includes Joey Bolognone on lead vocals, guitar and keyboard, Josh Salvage on drums and background vocals, John Paul McLaughlin on guitar and Alec Gilfillan on bass. Fazeshift is unsigned, but released the EP ‘The Everyday Broken Heart’ in 2008. Nashville, Tenn. band Hot Chelle Rae identifies with rock, pop and dance music genres. Members of the band include Ryan Keith Follese on guitar and lead vocals, Nash Overstreet on lead guitar and vocals, Ian Keaggy on bass and vocals and Jamie Follese on drums.

Beyda said he likes to include a local act to support the Syracuse area, as well as a lesser-known nationally touring band.

‘Every act brings its own unique sound to the lineup,’ he said.
