Syracuse football recruiting: 3-star quarterback Rex Culpepper chooses Syracuse over national powerhouses
Three-star Class of 2016 quarterback Rex Culpepper out of Plant (Florida) High School has committed to Syracuse over the likes of Ohio State, Florida and Clemson, among others. The news was first reported Tuesday afternoon by Stephen Bailey of The Post-Standard and was later tweeted by his mother, Monica.

Culpepper stands at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, per Scout.com, and is rated as the 74th-best quarterback in the class. Per 247 Sports, he threw for 2,016 yards and 20 touchdowns during his junior season.
He is Syracuse’s first verbal commit since Robert Washington pledged to the Orange all the way back on April 25. That brings SU’s total in the current recruiting crop to four, with each being an offensive player.
The Orange is expected to have six quarterbacks on the roster in 2015 – senior Terrel Hunt, sophomore Austin Wilson, sophomore AJ Long, walk-on sophomore Zack Mahoney and freshmen Eric Dungey and Kenterius Womack.
