Biden at SU

Joe Biden, vice president and alumnus of the Syracuse University College of Law, addressed sexual assault in Goldstein on Thursday. Biden came on stage at 12:43 p.m. and joined SU student Samantha Skaller, a member of the national It’s On Us committee. He used statistics and anecdotes to convey his message of changing culture surrounding sexual assault. He mentioned his previous work on sexual assault legislature, including the Violence Against Women Act that then-President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1994. He spoke at SU as part of a four-stop college tour for the It’s On Us campaign. Check out pictures from the event here.

’90s throwbacks

If you’re still deciding on classes for Spring 2016, get inspired by your favorite ’90s cartoon. This semester’s Myslice Guide features Angelica from “Rugrats” , CatDog, Eliza Thornberry of “The Wild Thornberrys,” Gerald of “Hey Arnold” and Reggie of “Rocket Power.” The classes are chosen based on what the character would choose if they were students at SU. There’s something there for the explorer, storyteller or mischief-maker in everyone.

Men’s soccer advances

The soccer team shut out No. 2 Clemson to advance to the ACC championship game. The team came into the tournament without any wins against its ranked opponents. Now, it has defeated second-seeded North Carolina and third-seeded Clemson. Junior Ben Polk scored the only two goals of the game. The Orange will take on No. 9 Notre Dame on Sunday at 1 p.m. in an attempt for its first ACC championship title. Check out full coverage of the team here.

Popular professor to retire

Tim Barr, the professor for  FST 122: “Beer and Wine Appreciation,” is retiring at the end of this semester. He is moving to be closer to his wife, but said he hopes they will continue the class, which is popular among upperclassmen. Some semesters, it filled up 20 minutes after the start of registration. Over the course of the class, students learn about the compositions and tastes of various beers and wines. Barr has taught “Beer and Wine Appreciation” for 17 years. Check out his favorite beverage picks here.

Dismal outlook

SU football faces No. 1 Clemson in the Carrier Dome on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. In light of the odds, none of the D.O. beat writers predicted a winning game for SU. The Orange have lost six straight games, while the Tigers are undefeated. Quarterback Eric Dungey is injured, putting the game in the hands of walk-on Zach Mahoney against Clemson’s quarterback Deshaun Watson, a Heisman contender. All in all, it’s going to be a tough game for the Orange. Read more about how the team got to this point here.
