Syracuse senior Riley Donahue was selected by the Upstate Pride with the 25th and final pick in the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League draft on Monday night.
On April 26, Donahue moved into seventh place all-time on the SU assists leaderboard. She was the Orange’s leader in points during her junior season last year and has 25 goals with 20 assists as a senior for SU.
Prior to last night’s draft, just one former Syracuse player was rostered in the WPLL: Kailah Kempney, an attack for the New York Fight.
The coach of the Upstate Pride is SU great Katie Rowan. She is still the all-time SU leader in career points, with 396, made up of 232 goals and 164 assists.
Before picking Donahue with its final selection, the Upstate Pride also selected Megan Whittle (Maryland), Shayna Pirreca (Florida), Lydia Sutton (Southern California) and Elena Romesburg (James Madison).
The WPLL schedule for the upcoming summer features matches mostly played at larger lacrosse tournament sites. The closest that the Upstate Pride will play to Syracuse is on June 24 at the Capital City Classic Lacrosse Tournament in Albany.
