Syracuse Athletics announced Thursday that it will will meet with Cornell for the 124th time when the Orange hosts the Big Red on Dec. 1 in the Carrier Dome.
Last season, SU head coach Jim Boeheim coached against then-freshman at Cornell and his son, Jimmy. This season, the matchup will add another Boeheim: Jim’s other son and soon-to-be Syracuse freshman Buddy.
Syracuse has won the last 38 meetings between the two schools and holds a 92-31 advantage all-time. It’s the second-most frequent matchup in SU history, behind the Orange’s games against Colgate. SU has never lost to Cornell under Jim Boeheim, although Boeheim did lose as a player to Cornell in January 1965.
The 2018-19 season will be Brian Earl’s third as Cornell’s head coach, and the Big Red are coming off a 12-16 campaign. Matt Morgan led Cornell in scoring, at 22.5 points per game, and entered his name into the NBA Draft but hasn’t signed with an agent, so he could return to school for his senior year. The Big Red also returns Stone Gettings, who averaged 16.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season.
Here is the already announced portion of Syracuse’s nonconference schedule:
Thursday, Nov. 15: 2K Classic vs. Connecticut, Iowa or Oregon (at Madison Square Garden)
Friday, Nov. 16: 2K Classic vs. Connecticut, Iowa or Oregon (at Madison Square Garden)
Saturday, Dec. 1: Cornell
Saturday, Dec. 15: Old Dominion
