Syracuse will play Connecticut in the semifinal round of the 2K Classic.

Syracuse’s opponents in the opening stage of the 2K Classic were announced on Monday in a release from SU Athletics. The Orange will play Eastern Washington on Nov. 6 and Morehead State on Nov. 10, both in the Carrier Dome.

The 2K Classic continues on to Madison Square Garden, where SU plays a semifinal matchup against Connecticut on Nov. 15. The winner will face the winner of Iowa and Oregon the following day, while the losers will play a consolation game.

It will be the third-straight season that the Huskies and Orange meet in New York City. It’ll be the 95th overall meeting between the schools, with SU owning a 56-38 advantage all-time. Connecticut brings a new coach to the matchup, first-year man Dan Hurley, who most recently coached at Rhode Island.

Syracuse will meet Eastern Washington for the first time ever in the Nov. 6 meeting. The Eagles made the College Basketball Invitational last season with a 20-15 record and are coached by Shantay Legans, who just completed his first season in charge at EWU. Only one Eastern Washington player averaged double-figure scoring last season, with Bogdan Bliznyuk putting up more than 21 a game. But he was a senior, so EWU’s offense will be forced to pick up that slack.

Morehead State has lost to Syracuse both times the teams have met, with the most recent coming in December 1987. Preston Spradlin will be in his second season at the helm of MSU. Four players averaged double-digit points last season for the Eagles and all are slated to return.
