Syracuse has added St. Bonaventure to its nonconference schedule, SU Athletics recently announced in a news release. The Bonnies will visit the Carrier Dome to take on the Orange on Dec. 29.
Last season, SBU beat Syracuse, 60-57, in overtime, ending a prior streak of 14-straight wins for SU against the Bonnies. Syracuse holds a 24-3 all-time series advantage.
St. Bonaventure enters the 2018-19 season lacking its two biggest playmakers from last season — when it made the NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid — in guards Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley. The two combined to average 37.2 points per game for the Bonnies. SBU’s most notable returning player is forward Courtney Stockard, who averaged 13.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a junior.
Mark Schmidt is entering his 12th season as St. Bonaventure’s head coach. The Bonnies finished last season 26-8, its best record under Schmidt and beat UCLA in its first game of the 2018 NCAA Tournament before falling to Florida in the round of 64.
