Syracuse picked up its first women’s basketball commit of the 2020 class on Sunday. Guard Kiara Fisher committed to SU, she announced in a tweet Sunday night. Fisher is a junior at Elmira (New York) High School and was named third-team all-state in Class AA as a sophomore.

MyTwinTiers.com reported that Fisher received her scholarship offer from Syracuse two summers ago. She’ll join Syracuse the first fall after the Orange will have graduated starting guards Tiana Mangakahia and Gabrielle Cooper, along with backup guard Chelayne Bailey.

One of Fisher’s standout games as a sophomore came in the regional round of the state tournament. In an 80-48 Elmira win, she racked up 19 points and 18 assists in a win over Kingston. Elmira lost in the following region round, three wins shy of a state title.

Syracuse’s new freshman class has a New York recruit, as well: Emily Engstler, a five-star forward from Fresh Meadows, N.Y.

Along with Fisher as the first recruit in the 2020 class, the Orange is expected to welcome guard Taleah Washington in the 2019 class, after a post-grad year at DME Sports Academy.
