After two losses in less than 24 hours on Thursday and Friday, Syracuse (2-2) has fallen out of the AP Top 25. The Orange opened the season at No. 16 and had risen a spot to No. 15 before this week’s precipitous drop.
The Orange fell to Connecticut on Thursday at Madison Square Garden, 83-76. The loss spoiled Jalen Carey’s homecoming, as he dropped 26 points in a building, a 10-minute train ride from his childhood home in Harlem.
The following night, SU lost to Oregon, 80-65. The Ducks were led by 7-foot-2 freshman Bol Bol in a dominating performance, as he finished with 26 points and nine rebounds. Oregon fell from No. 13 to No. 21 in this week’s poll, though, after it had lost to Iowa on Thursday.
For the second-straight week, Duke ranks No. 1 in the country. The Orange play the Blue Devils twice in ACC play, first at Cameron Indoor Stadium in January and then in the Carrier Dome in February. Overall, six ACC teams are ranked. The other five: Virginia at No. 4, North Carolina at No. 7, Virginia Tech at No. 13, Florida State at No. 14 and Clemson at No. 16.
Syracuse gets back in action on Wednesday in the Carrier Dome, when the Orange will take on Colgate for the 171st time in the programs’ histories.
