Despite a loss to Boston College, Syracuse rose in the Inside Lacrosse rankings this week.

Syracuse (2-1, 0-1 Atlantic Coast) rose four spots in this week’s Inside Lacrosse poll despite dropping its first game of the year on Saturday to No. 1 Boston College. SU has jumped six spots since its No. 13 preseason ranking.

The Orange started their week off with a win on Tuesday against Binghamton, 15-5. SU rode the play of Nicole Levy who had four points on six shots while Asa Goldstock allowed just one goal in almost 46 minutes of action.

After two tune-up wins against Connecticut and Binghamton, Syracuse faced the No. 1 team in the nation on Saturday in Boston College. The Orange jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead behind dominance in the draw and an array of goal scorers. But their lead quickly diminished as the Eagles took the lead early in the second half and rode it to a 14-12 victory.

Following the game, SU head coach Gary Gait said his goal is to make this year’s squad a “power-4 team that competes for championships” and said SU’s play was “OK” against BC. Despite the close loss, the Orange rose in the poll and inched closer to becoming a top-4 team.

Syracuse plays its next game Monday night against Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
