After being named an Inside Lacrosse’s Media All-American second team two weeks ago, Syracuse attack Emily Hawryschuk was chosen as a first team selection by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Wednesday. She is one of 16 players to receive the honor, and one of just seven attacks on the first team.

The Victor native is the 16th Syracuse player ever to be named to the IWLCA’s first team and the first since Kayla Treanor earned the honor in 2016. Hawryschuk’s 75 goals this year tied her for second-most in a single-season with Christina Dove, who did so in 2008, and her 166 career scores are already seventh all-time in Syracuse history. She also led the team in draw controls with 67.

Hawryschuk’s historic season was backed by 15 games with four or more goals, including back-to-back five-goal performances in SU’s two NCAA tournament contests. One of her best games of the season came against Northwestern on Feb. 24, when, despite being face-guarded, Hawryschuk notched a hat trick in the first half before scoring the game-winning goal in overtime.

“She’s a girl of very few words, but she leads a lot by example in her actions,” midfielder Julie Cross said prior to the season. “…You never really see her get flustered and I think that helps a lot because sometimes in games when we’re down she brings everyone in. She’s one of those girls that if she’s talking, everyone’s listening up.”

While next year Syracuse will be without Nicole Levy, who finished her career eighth all-time in goals for Syracuse, Hawyrschuk is set to lead a group of attack that returns three of its four starters. She’ll be joined by the duo of Megan Carney and Meaghan Tyrrell, who finished second and third in points behind Hawryschuk as freshmen.
