The Redhouse Arts Center announced its 2022-23 main stage season, which will feature four shows running between October 2022 and May 2023.
The nonprofit theater will put on “Angels in America, Part I: Millennium Approaches,” “A Christmas Story: The Musical,” “By The Way, Meet Vera Stark” and “The Bridges of Madison County,” Redhouse artistic director Temar Underwood said in a press release.
Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Angels in America, Part I: Millennium Approaches,” will run from Oct. 14 to Oct. 23. The play was written by Tony Kushner and portrays New York in the mid-1980s during the AIDS crisis and the conservative Reagan administration. Kushner’s work grapples with questions of identity, trust and judgment through a narrative that alternates between heartbreak and humor.
Redhouse will run the musical version of the classic movie “A Christmas Story” from Dec. 8 to Dec. 18. With music from the same team behind Tony-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen” and Academy Award-winning film “La La Land,” this version of the familiar story is set in Indiana in the 1940s and follows main character Ralphie Parker’s journey as he struggles to obtain his Christmas wish, a Red Ryder BB gun.
For its first show of 2023, Redhouse will put on “By the Way, Meet Vera Stark” from Feb. 25 to March 5, 2023. Set during Hollywood’s Golden Age, the show follows the life of Black maid and aspiring actress Vera Stark. Tensions rise between Stark and her boss, aging star Gloria Mitchell, when Stark lands a breakout role in one of Mitchell’s films. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage, the play is a satire that comments on race and its portrayal in Hollywood.
The 2022-23 season will close with a run of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “The Bridges of Madison County” from May 12 to May 21, 2023. The romance musical features Francesca Johnson, an Italian woman left alone on her Iowa farm for four days while her family is away at the state fair. Her life changes when a handsome National Geographic photographer pulls into her driveway to ask for directions.
Subscription reservations for the 2022-23 season will be available online or by calling the Redhouse box office, with single tickets starting at $40 going on sale in August, the press release reads. Redhouse will offer two package options, including a four-show subscription for $125 or a three-show subscription for $100. Auditions for roles in the upcoming season will take place from April 13-16 at Redhouse.
