Orange loses season finale
For the second straight meeting, the Syracuse women’s basketball team faced a large halftime deficit against Georgetown. And although on Tuesday night the Orange came closer than before, Syracuse still fell short, 73-67 in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Georgetown led 55-34 with 10:20 remaining in the game before SU closed within three in the game’s final minute. The Orange shot 54 percent in the second half after shooting 32 percent in the first.
Senior guard Rochelle Coleman led Syracuse with 18 points, 16 coming in the second half. Senior center Chineze Nwagbo added 14. Syracuse ended its regular season 12-15, 4-12 in the Big East.
The Georgetown-Syracuse rivalry isn’t over, though. SU and the Hoyas meet again in the first round of the Big East Tournament in Hartford, Conn. Saturday at 8 p.m. Syracuse is seeded 11th out of 12 teams, while GU is seeded sixth. The winner plays No. 2 Connecticut at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
