Syracuse features 3 winning sprinters at Dr. Sander Invitational and strong distance performances in Boston

Syracuse found success to start the weekend Friday, as the sprinters competed at the 2018 Armory Dr. Sander Invitational in New York City while the distances runners traveled to the John Thomas Terrier Invitational in Boston. The Orange had three winners on the day.

In New York, Imani Clark won the women’s 200-meter run with a time of 24.38 seconds. Kashif Miller won the men’s 200 in 22.04 seconds. Clark was followed in the women’s race by Dasia Pressley in second and Victoria Parker in fifth.

In the 60-meter dash, Eunice Boateng finished first in the finals on the women’s side with a time of 7.53 seconds. On the men’s side two Syracuse runners qualified for the finals. Chris Tucker finished fourth with a time of 6.96 seconds and Chuka Soronnadi placed eighth.

Of the eight men to qualify for the 60 meter hurdles, four of them were competing for SU. Angelo Goss placed second with a time of 7.71 seconds, followed by David Gilstrap in third, Matt Moore in fourth and Richard Floyd in sixth. On the women’s side Danielle Delgado placed third with a time of 8.43 seconds.

In the women’s 400-meter run, Kadejhia Sellers finished second with a time of 54.57 seconds, while Cheyenne Trigg finished in ninth. Pascal Bastien was the best on the men’s side of the 400, finishing tenth with a time of 49.93. Bastien also took part in the long jump where he placed seventh with a distance of 6.63 meters, just ahead of Randall Johnson who placed eight with 6.60 meters. Aviana Goode finished third on the women’s side with a distance of 5.66 meters.



In Boston, only SU’s women distance runners competed today, led by Shannon Malone’s second place finish in the 5000-meter run. She came in at 16:30.00, a time that paced all collegiate runners. Rachel Bonner led the way in the women’s one-mile run as she finished sixth with a time of 4:49.52. Sydney Leiher came in shortly behind her in 11th with a time of 4:55.47. In the women’s 3000-meters, Madeleine Davison brought home a fifth-place finish with a time of 9:30.00.

Syracuse will look to finish strong in Boston tomorrow with the men’s distance runners. The group is led by Bowerman Watch List candidate Justyn Knight who won the mile event at this meet in 2016.
