Men’s lax falls to 1-3

For the first time since 1975, the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team is 1-3. The Orange lost 12-11 in overtime against Johns Hopkins on Friday. SU has now lost back-to-back home games for the first time since 1995.

Freshman Mike Leveille scored five goals. SU goalie Jay Pfeifer recorded 14 saves.

Syracuse led most of the game but scored its final goal with 6:37 remaining in regulation. At that point, SU led Hopkins, 11-9. Johns Hopkins scored the tying goal with 1:42 left, and Greg Peyser scored an unassisted goal with 1:34 left in overtime for the Hopkins win.

SU next plays at Princeton on March 26 at 1 p.m.

Softball



After a strong start to its season, the Syracuse softball team finally ran into trouble over Spring Break. The Orange lost seven of nine games over the break in California, four of the losses coming against ranked opponents.

On Sunday, in the consolation semifinals of the Kia Classic, SU (10-9) fell to Florida State, 4-3. On Saturday, the Orange defeated No. 22 Florida State, 4-3, in eight innings. Sunday’s loss ended a run of five straight games against ranked opponents.

Syracuse returns to action on Thursday with a doubleheader at Massachusetts at 2 p.m. On Friday, the Orange visits Brown for a doubleheader, also at 2 p.m.

Track and Field

Ten athletes placed in the top three in their individual events at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla.

Sheron Mark and Joshua Johnson were gold medalists in the women’s heptathlon and men’s triple jump, respectively. Jillian Drouin finished right behind Mark for second place while senior Jenna Grimaldi high jumped to second place in her specialty event.

On the men’s side, Chris Muldoon picked up a silver medal in the 1500 meters, finishing two seconds ahead of teammate Valerij Petrulevich, who settled for third.
