Syracuse University officials broke ground on a $90 million College of Law building Thursday.

The new building will be constructed on the site of the Raynor parking lot, across from the Carrier Dome and west of where the two current law buildings stand.

The building will be named Dineen Hall in honor of College of Law alumni Robert and Carolyn Dineen. In June 2010, the couple’s three children, Kathryn Dineen Wriston, Robert Dineen Jr. and Carolyn Dineen King, pledged $15 million toward the construction, the largest gift in the College of Law’s history, according to a Nov. 7, 2010, Daily Orange article.

The 20,000 square foot building is designed to improve the learning environment of law students and serve as a home base for all those associated with the college. The new building will include seven lecture halls of various sizes, a teaching courtroom, a library, several classrooms and an auditorium, according to the SU Office of Campus Planning, Design and Construction website.

Richard Gluckman, a 1971 alumnus of the School of Architecture, is the architect for the Dineen Hall project. The building is expected to be completed by 2014.
