Two-star guard Roberts verbally commits to Syracuse

After a visit to Syracuse during the weekend, offensive lineman Aaron Roberts verbally committed to the program in a tweet on Sunday afternoon.

Roberts, a two-star recruit, is the 14th player to verbally commit to the Orange for 2014, and the first offensive lineman.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound guard’s commitment further illustrates Syracuse’s recruiting success in the Chicago area since Scott Shafter became head coach last January. Roberts attended De La Salle Institute in the South Side of Chicago and joins Illinois natives Colton Moskal (Lake Zurich, Ill.) and Lamar Dawson (Chicago) in the class of 2014.

A highlight tape from his junior season shows that Roberts has quick feet and the ability to pick up linebackers at the second level, which could bode well for the run-heavy Syracuse offense.

Scout.com reports that Roberts also received offers from Ball State, Illinois and New Mexico, among other programs.
